Dallas Market!!

With the holidays over my full attention turns to Market. I checked the calendar and realized today that there are only 17 days left until buyers from around the world converge on Dallas Market Center. I'm so excited about being there with my faux pastries and with such an amazing group of very talented ladies. Our booth, Vintage Rose Boutiques, will be stocked with TONS of romantic and shabby chic merchandise. So if you're at Market drop by Booth #2327, and say hello. I'd love to meet you in person!

It's Freezing Outside!

This day has been SO cold. The wind was blowing and snow fell the entire day. I know some of you are buried under the white stuff right now, but we don't always get it in my neck of the woods so it's been a bit of a treat for some. I ~~love~~ reeeeeeally like it. Just in case you haven't seen enough snow, here's a picture that took outside my home.

I hope you all stay warm and have a lovely weekend. It's supposed to warm up a bit here on Friday and through the weekend. Therefore, I'm glad I took this picture because it will surely last longer than the snow will.

Getting Ready for Market!

Wow! It has been a very interesting December. There's always something happening around here and with Dallas Market coming up in just a few short weeks, the frosting is flying... literally. I found these awesome candle holders at one of my favorite junk shops. They're going to look great with my display.

In the midst of frigid temperatures, there's still some very beautiful plants around that are enduring the cold pretty well. It drizzled all day Sunday as I was out and about running errands. I found these lovely roses outside one of my favorite stores to peruse. I love the color and the tiny drops of rain on them adds a nice touch. Enjoy! :)

Morning Surprise

I awoke this morning to a sky full of snow falling! It was so calm and peaceful as the delicate flakes began covering everything in a blanket of white. While our temperature has remained above freezing we just had a dusting of the white stuff but it was fun to see it nonetheless. I suppose this means winter is at our doorstep. Brrrrr!!!

Candy Corn Faux Cupcake

As the daily temperatures are starting to not be so harsh, I see that fall is approaching. I remember being a child and visiting my grandparent's home. It was warm and inviting and filled with lots of wonderful collections of things. One memory in particular was that my grandmother had beautiful, crystal candy dishes of varying sizes and shapes. Some were open and others were crowned with glimmering, heavy lids that sparkled under the lights. My quest for the dish full of candy corn, my favorite autumn candy, was never disappointing. So with autumn in mind I've created a new cupcake that reminds me of candy corn. Enjoy! :)

I went to a dear friend's house last week to visit and had a wonderful time. She's such a neat lady and is married to great man, who truely loves his wife and kids. Their children are adorable, too! While there we had a very tasty lunch and very peanutty peanut butter cookies. I liked them so much that since that day, I've had an itch to make some of my own. So tonight I did and they are yummmmmy! Take a peek:

Apothecary Jars

Apothecary jars can be so much fun to fill. Their sizes and shapes are classic. I've seen them filled with everything from M&M's to apples to cotton balls to sea shells and more. Empty or filled with sweet treats they're great to decorate with. Jennifer Froh of Pear Street Studios has some great pictures of her Apothecary jars here. And here's how I like filling them:

Friday nights are very special around here. I always cook favorite recipes and homebaked bread. Here's some of what I cooked last night. The chicken is so wonderful! It's a recipe found on the web somewhere but I can't recall where. Check it out:

Here's the recipe if you'd like to give it a go:

Garlic Chicken with Lemon Fresh Herbs

3 cloves of garlic, chopped and smashed into a paste
1 bunch of parsley, chopped
1 tsp. Thyme
3 lemons, juiced
8 oz. dry Sherry
EVOO (extra virgin olive oil)
salt and pepper

Cut chicken into 10 serving size pieces. (I use 12-5oz. chicken bre*sts) Season these with salt and pepper. Brown chicken in 2 Tblsp. or a little more of EVOO in large heavy skillet over medium high heat. Turn heat down and cook covered for 15 mins. Remove chicken pieces to a serving dish and keep covered to keep warm. Retaining the juices, add garlic to pan and cook gently for about 10 mins., being careful not to burn the garlic. Add Sherry and thyme and turn heat up to let sauce reduce to about 1/2 while stirring. Add lemon juice and about 3/4 of the chopped parsley and reduce again. Pour sauce over chicken and add the last of the parsley before plating food. Enjoy! :)

Traveling Buddies

Each week as I make my grocery run I'm accompanied by two special traveling buddies. Aren't they cute? ;) Living in Texas means very hot summers. And before the actual first day of summer arrives, we're already enduring sweltering temperatures. This is not good for groceries that are left in the car between stops. A friend of mine wisely suggested I start taking along a cooler w/ ice to store items that need to remain cool. It has made such a difference that I bought a second larger cooler, too! :)

Now, to address the 7 weird facts/habits of My Pink Boutique....
Let me just start by saying that this was an extreeeeeeeeeeeemely difficult thing for me to do. Not necessarily write about myself, but to find things about me that are weird. See, I'm just a normal gal, har har! ;-D I had to enlist the help of my family and it was even hard for them. When my daughter said that a friend of hers asked why I was so nice, she just shrugged her shoulders. My son piped in with his deep voice and in the tone of Darth Vader said, "She does not know Mom's dark side." hahahhaa! He's so funnnnnnnnnnny! So here we are and here's my best attempt at weirdness.

1. I'm a night owl with early bird tendencies. I love the night and yet, I love being up at daybreak.
2. I cannot stand to have hair in my face. It bothers me to have even a whisp in my eyes.
3. I do not like seafood of anykind. Eweeeeeeeeeeeee!! Yuck!
4. I like playing Pikmin with all of my children and Jedi Knight Academy w/ my teenager. I love all of the vehicles in the Kashyyyk map.
5. I always sneeze in multiples. Never just once.
6. I willingly stand out in freezing weather literally all night to stargaze through my telescope.
7. I've set my computer to ring like a telephone when email comes in. And amazingly sometimes I hear a new email come in and when I check it there's nothing there! Funnier thing is that this has happened to my son and me at the same time. We both thought we heard my computer ring and there was NOTHING there!

That's about how weird this gal gets. I hope my weirdness has given you all a chance to laugh or at least a slight giggle.

I'm sure by now you all are quite familiar with my fascination for all things patisserie. I found yummy pillows at Gail Friend Designs that I love. No, you can't eat them. These are original designs by Gail and are quite adorable. You NEED at least one of these. Really.

This is my favorite. I have never met a wedding cake that I didn't like.

Cupcakes anyone?

Cinnamon Almonds

Oven roasted cinnamon almonds. Yum! My DH loves these and when I saw the price of a very small package of them at the market I decided that I can make them myself. Thanks to the power of the internet, I'm now armed with a recipe. That's a bowl of melted butter, almonds and another bowl with cinnamon, brown sugar, white sugar and ground cloves. The smell is wonderful and the taste was just as yummy. They didn't last long around here. ;)

Now throw all of the ingredients together making sure each almond has a chance to get some of the sweet goo on it. Pour the entire bowl out on to parchment paper and bake.
